Homo-Duty and Bashing!

Saturday was a day filled with what I like to call "Homo-Duties."

As President of Lafayette's Citizens for Civil Rights (www.nlci.com/ccr) , I headed down to Indy to attend the monthly Indiana Equality (www.incoalition.org) steering committee meeting. (CCR is the regional representative on the committee and the organizing group for the Lafayette area counties.) We accomplished a lot-- including finishing a rough draft of the campaign to defeat the marriage amendment!

But I have to admit that I hate losing the better part of a day every month-- between the drive and all. I can't tie other things with it usually (too early to go out, etc) .. and it gets to be a long drive with my own thoughts. I am constantly needing those precious weekend hours to make up for not getting things done during the week due to work.

SOME DAY... we will not need to do this work any more.

In the evening I joined several friends and attended a fundraising dinner at the Lafayette Unitarian Church -- for Pride Lafayette. (www.pridelafayette.org) This is the local community center and social organization. They (along with CCR and PFLAG) sponsor PRYSM, our local youth group for GLBT. So, we were treated to two inspirational speeches with students, as well as entertainment. And of course, I schmoozed where I could.. talking about SJR 7, serving up water and making appointments to talk more about IE and GLBT issues in Indiana. I even made good connections with the new political director for Purdue's Queer Student Union. (www.pqsu.org) . They have exciting news for the future.

Ok.. you say.. whew.. what a load for the day. So, I headed out to my favorite place to hang in Lafayette, Crawdaddys the bar owned by a local lesbian next to her restaurant, Cajun Connection. Hanging with friends is important and fun.. even if it's painful to watch someone get their chest waxed...ouch! What about the bashing? Read the next post!
