Indiana congressman John Hostettler (R) voted against the aid package for the storm ravaged Gulf coast. This man is pure evil. He's a gun nut (Remember when he said that the right to bear arms meant all Americans should have their own nuke? How about when he got caught at an airport carrying a concealed firearm?) and a staunch civil rights opponent. Hopefully the voters in the 8th district (which covers both Evansville and Bloomington) will notice that Hostettler doesn't embrace the traditional values of Hoosiers - hospitality, generosity and kindness.
WASHINGTON -- Rep. John Hostettler, R-Ind., was one of 11 lawmakers who voted against nearly $52 billion in hurricane relief approved by the House on Thursday. The Senate voted 97-0 to send the measure to the president for his signature.

"Within seven weeks after Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast," Hostettler said in a statement, "federal taxpayers will have spent 50 percent more than the combined annual budgets of the states of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama."

Hostettler is a top target for Democrats in next year's elections, and the campaign arm of House Democrats issued a statement Thursday calling Hostettler's vote a "stunning abandonment of his fellow Americans."

"Indiana families sent John Hostettler to Washington to represent their values and compassion in Congress," said Bill Burton, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spokesman. "Today, he has shown that he represents neither."
