Indiana Equality is proud to announce that Rep Thompson withdrew his amendment that was aimed at outlawing human rights ordinances covering sexual orientation and gender identity. The House reconvened at 1:30pm today. Rep Thompson withdrew his amendment and the House was recessed until 5:30pm tonight.

This does not mean that this amendment won't come back later attached to another bill. In fact, the rumors at the Statehouse today say that the amendment has a good chance of being reborn later this session...

The gathering at the Statehouse is still planned. It is important to gather a group of us together to call out our legislators and thank them for quietly killing this amendment behind the scenes! Please gather at the Rotunda at 5pm tonight at the Statehouse - 200 W. Washington Street.

As well, don't forget about the "Our Families Count" rally which is being held on Thursday, February 9 from 1-3pm. After all the recent anti-LGBT legislation we've dealt with this year, it's time to stand up and be counted. If Eric Miller can throw a Statehouse rally for hundreds of people in the name of hate and bigotry, we can surely pack the Statehouse with fair-minded individuals in search of justice! You can get more information on the rally at this link.

Indiana Equality would like to thank the hundreds of members who sent emails to their Representative as well as all of the bloggers and national organizations that picked up on this alert. Together we made a difference in Indiana. We will not be second class citizens!

If you would like to make a donation to Indiana Equality to continue their lobbying work at the Statehouse you may do so here.

Thanks again for all everyone did to help stop this offensive amendment.
