Larry the Cable Guy

For some reason, Paige, Jerame and I seem to like the stand up comedy of Larry the Cable Guy. He's part of the redneck roundup that seems to have taken over comedy tours these days. While Jeff Foxworthy elicits common groans from us, we all giggle at Larry's dumbass routine.

So it was with interest that I cruised over to David Cross's "Open Letter to Larry the Cable Guy." While I realized that Larry's humor was of the 3rd grade variety, Cross really takes him to task for spreading a misogynistic world view. The two have apparently been sparring in various magazine articles and book deals, but the post is still damn involving.

About being Anti-Gay. I honestly take that back. I do not think that you are anti-gay, I didn't choose those words wisely. Your stuff isn't necessarily anti-gay but rather stupid and easy. "Madder than a queer with lock jaw on Valentines Day." That's not that funny, I don't care who you are. It's just sooo easy. I mean, over half the planet sucks dick so why gays? Why not truck stop whores, or Hollywood Starlets or housewives? Because when you say "queer" you get an easy laugh. End of story.
