Dandelion Junk Queens

Earlier this evening I had the privilege of meeting the members of Dandelion Junk Queens at a private party here in Indy as they continue on their tour across the country. The group stopped in Indy, after playing in Chicago, to visit family as they head down to Louisville on their way to the True/False Film Festival in Columbia, MO. Dandelion Junk Queens is a group of traveling buskers whose musical style is undeniably unique. The absolutely intriguing, eclectic core of DJQ was formed by Claire and Mackenzie, both of whom I absolutely adore and admire, in Bellingham, Washington. The members of DJQ at tonight's performance included Claire, Mackenzie, Mackenzie's partner Ben, and Billy, along with Cate and Mike from Sour Mash Hug Band. It's important to note the members of the band at any given performance because the performers tend to come and go along the group's travels, collaborating with other musicians along the way. In describing Dandelion Junk Queens, I would like to stress a couple of points. When I mention "eclectic" and "unique", I am referring to punk musicians whose instruments include ordinary guitars accompanied by accordions, a saw, a washboard and metal cups, buckets, and an instrument that is not, but I can only describe as, a Stroh violin. When I mention "traveling buskers", I refer to the fact that Mackenzie and Claire have recently returned from a 6-month journey busking around New Zealand and Australia. I strongly encourage anyone who is free tomorrow evening to see them at Luna Music @ 6:30p.

Be sure to check out their website to hear their new (and first) album, Bumtape.
