Springtime is here!

As I sit here waiting on Jerame to get up this morning, I can look out the window at all the rain coming down. Normally, the rain makes me a little depressed - it gets so dark and gloomy and the wind can whip and howl. Today though, the rain isn't making me depressed. It's making me feel a little happy - a little eager for full-on-Springtime.

I can see buds on the trees. I can see some crocuses peeking up out of the dirt. And this morning, I saw a robin on the tree beside our balcony. The weather is warmer and while the sun may not be shining, the warmth is still here.

But being so happy during the rain reminds me of the Garbage song, "Only Happy When It Rains."

I'm only happy when it rains
I'm only happy when it's complicated
And though I know you can't appreciate it
I'm only happy when it rains

You know I love it when the news is bad
And why it feels so good to feel so sad
I'm only happy when it rains

What signs of Springtime have you noticed lately? Are you excited winter is finally over?

Ya know, Bil, you're a little too chipper for this early in the season.

I'm always happy to see spring show up so I can see all the empty beer cans and $2 whiskey bottles in the yards. Suzannah and I found large mounds of dog shit on the sidewalk north of our house. At least with snow that's covered...

Yeah, yeah, I'm grumpy today.

Signs of springtime…

Living near the entrance to our neighborhood cigarette butts litter our curbs and up into the yard every spring. In itself, a tolerable trade off except when my loving bride from hell starts examining them for brand name…, just to make sure that her loving bride from heaven hasn’t picked-up that nasty habit again! Sheezh-o-pete—it’s been 6 years now…where’s the trust?

Last October Allan and I planted bulbs under our red oak tree in the front yard. It was a nasty job - I hate digging! Anyway, I didn't know if they would pop up. But lo and behold - they're starting to come through the earth. I will be so excited if they actually bloom the way they're supposed to.

When I worked downtown on Mass Avenue, there were a few trees in front of our building. I always knew Spring was coming when the trees sprouted buds. I'm sure they're there now (but I'm not)..... :(

Spring will officially be here in a little over a week! We need to celebrate!
