Yesterday I attended the annual dinner of the Columbus, Indiana, Human Rights Commission. Over two hundred people attended and honored our friend Gene Maresca with the William R. Laws Award, their annual award "for an outstanding contribution to making these words [we hold these truths to be self-evident that all people are created equal . . .] a reality in Columbus and for continuous support of human rights". This is the second consecutive year that the award has gone to a leader of the Gay Straight Alliance. Gene's remarks were inspirational and prodded those who may think that enough has already been done. We all owe Gene our thanks for all that he does.
