You're mad too? Welcome to IAN.

So I see from all the comments and e-mails that you're just as mad as I am. You're tired of being second-class. You're fed up with hypocrites and bigots. You're sick of constantly playing defense while the media gives crapmasters like Eric Miller and Ann Coulter more and more airtime.

You're tired of constitutional amendments - state and national. You're sick of attempts to prevent gays and lesbians from adopting. Hell, remember the attempt at keeping lesbians from having artificial insemination? You're fed up with living in a state that thinks so little of you that they allow you to be fired from your job or kicked out of your house just because you're LGBT - or because someone else could think you are. You're pissed off that your kids won't have the same opportunities in this state - whether because they have two mommies or daddies or whether they're gay themselves.

Welcome to the Indiana Action Network. As the new president of IAN, it's my pleasure to hold the door for you. Come in. We're gathering over there. Grab a seat. Come share your opinion. We might be a little different from what you've seen before.

We don't want your money. If we need it for an action, we'll tell you what we need and folks can help us get it. We want your time. We want your opinion. We want your ideas and your willingness to stand up for LGBT rights. We want you to be part of the solution, not just as foot soldiers but as generals. We want everyone to be involved in defending our community.

One of the first ways that you can vent some anger and help IAN at the same time is coming up quickly - January 31st. The Senate Judiciary committee will be meeting in the Senate Chambers (3rd floor at the Statehouse) to decide whether or not to send SJR-7 to the full Senate. It's going to be a kangaroo court. The Republicans maintained a majority of the state senate seats - they have a majority of seats in the committee. It's going to pass. It's that simple. But they're calling it a hearing - so how about they "hear" from us?

First, go to the IAN action center and send the committee an email telling them that you insist that they kill the bill. Let them know that history will be judging them harshly - like it has D.C. Stephenson and George Wallace. You'll be signed up for the IAN Action Alerts so you'll be the first to know when we have opportunities to make our community visible in a tangible method. It looks to be a busy year!

And secondly, come to the Judiciary Committee meeting at 9am on January 31st. Bring a sign (without a stick!), bring your loudest voice, and bring your will to be heard. Be prepared to be escorted out of the building, but - as always - this will be a nonviolent protest.

We'll be having an all members meeting in the next couple weeks. Be sure to send your e-mail so you're signed up for the mailing list. We'll be sending out the meeting time and date soon!

And welcome to IAN. 'Cuz we're mad too.
