I'll bet that got your attention, didn't it? *grins*
I'm proud to announce bilerico.com's first contest. The prize? Tickets for you and a friend to hear Judy Shepard speak at the University of Indianapolis Ransburg Auditorium AND access to the private reception afterwards. I'll be giving away two sets of tickets.
In 1998, Judy Shepard lost her son, Matthew, to a murder motivated by anti-gay hate. Turning tragedy into a crusade for justice, and determined to prevent Matthew's fate from befalling others, she established The Matthew Shepard Foundation to help carry on his legacy. Speaking from a mother's perspective, Judy has made the prevention of hate crimes the focus of her efforts, and urges her audiences to make their schools and communities safer for everyone, regardless of their race, sex, religion, or gender identity and/or expression.

How do you win? I thought you'd never ask... All you have to do is send an e-mail. Easy enough, eh?
Send a friend the following text in an e-mail and copy me on it at email@example.com. I will pick two winners at random from the e-mails I get copies of. You can enter more than once, if you e-mail more than one person - but each entry must be separate (I won't know how many people you sent the e-mail to since I'm just picking at random). Give it whatever subject line you'd like just make sure I'm copied on it at firstname.lastname@example.org I will never disclose any e-mail addresses to anyone and all e-mails will be deleted at the end of the contest. Not even a mailing list to join! *grins*
Good luck! The contest closes Saturday night at midnight and I'll choose two winners Sunday morning.
The e-mail text:
I saw a post on bilerico.com about Judy Shepard's upcoming speech at the University of Indianapolis on March 6. While I was there, I also noticed that Indiana's proposed hate crimes law didn't advance. We're one of only 5 states left that doesn't have a hate crimes law! How embarrassing!
Take a minute to e-mail Speaker of the House Pat Bauer and ask him to find a way to bring the hate crimes bill back to life. His e-mail address is email@example.com Tell him it's about time Indiana joined the rest of the nation in responding to hate. With Judy Shepard in town it's downright shameful for the bill to fail now. After all, it never even got a vote after some right-winger put an anti-abortion amendment on it. Send him an e-mail and ask him to do something! I just did!
Remember to copy me on your e-mail. Only e-mail one person at a time, but multiple entries are fine. Winner announced on Sunday, March 4, 2007.
