I'm writing this just after finishing the Friday Update. My question for you all today is what GLBT story from this week do you think will have the biggest impact on us one year from today? Will Hillary's gay snafus cost her the primary? Will Pace's comments cause the tempest out of a teapot necessary to repeal don't ask, don't tell? Will SJR-7's assignment to the House Rules committee bury it? Something else?

Hilary has too many Superdelegates lined up for her various insults to the gay community to matter -- if her backers actually gave a damn enough about gay people to put us up there on an equal plane with, say, abortion. I know my place, grrlz, right behind the foetus in a sort of Eric Miller Through The Looking Glass sort of way.

SJR-7 buried in Rules? With Pelath? Huh? Do you know something I don't know?

DADTDP might have legs again, thanks to Pace giving people like Jon Stewart, Tom Toles, and Keith Olbermann an opportunity to make fun of Duncan Hunter (perhaps the worst of the bunch on this this week) and the whole idiocy of spending $191 million bucks to dump and replace perfectly good members of our military because they have a thing about truth and honor.

No inside info, Marla, I just tried to put down a third idea because three's a hipper number than two, which is why I went trilaterally symmetrical recently. The price I pay for fashion.... :)

I'm going to agree and think that the DADT comments will probably turn out to be huge. I should also put in a plug for the Jewish conservative movement accepting a lesbian and a gay man to study to become rabbis. Not as much fanfare, but will definitely change quite a few hearts and minds.

I think the biggest story from this week to impact LGBT lives will be Larry Kramer's speech calling for a "gay army." I think he'll get his army - and it'll make a difference.

Perhaps, Bil. Of course, some of us -- you included -- have never stopped being a part of one.

Thanks, Alex, for that tidbit. When things are moving like a pushmepullyou the way they have lately, it's good to take notice of the really positive (as opposed to the defensively positive) stuff.
