bgss.JPGIt seems like everybody's getting into the comedy business now. Logo's premiering its new Big Gay Sketch Show tonight at 10 PM. They say it's like SNL for gays, but from the clips on their site, it seems more like MadTV for the gays. In other words, it's rather juvenile and kinda mean. I would have thought that it could be a queer alternative to other sketch comedy, but if they keep it up it looks like it's going to be the same sort of junior high school humor, except with an all queer cast.

You can watch some preview videos here. They have a sketch up about how it's cool for a straight girl to have a trendy gay friend, another using negative stereotypes of transgender people as joke fodder, and another that doesn't really even make sense. (Is "Girls Gone Wilde" meant to be humorous juxtaposition? I think they got Oscar Wilde confused with Jane Austen.) I mean, I contribute to an LGBTQ blog, and I'm wondering why they can't get over their gay selves.

It's obviously lower budget than other sketch comedy shows, so maybe they can't be faulted for everything, and maybe it'll pick up after a few months or seasons. I don't know. But the premise, their root concept, seems to be rather boring. Who knows. I'd like to see them put together a good show.

Hop on over here to see for yourself (they didn't put anything up on YouTube). What do you all think?
