"The doctors have stopped trying to treat the cancer and so now it's up to God and my faith. And that's enough! But please continue to pray for the pain and sick stomach. My precious daughter, Tammy Sue, and her wonderful friends are staying with me while Roe builds churches. They don't want me falling down the stairs. I am down weight wise to 65 pounds, and look like a scarecrow. I need God's miracle to swallow. To those of you who are suffering as I....."don't give up"!! Make up your mind you're going to LIVE !! That is NOT EASY! The path gets so long. I look at young people and wish with all my heart for just one day of 'feeling great'. You see, God gives out his promises, they do not lie, they do not fail. We do not have to BEG him for them, they are FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" -- Tammy Faye Messner on her website as she courageously continues to fight lung cancer.

With guilty conscious, I have for years thought of those Bakers as horrid ex cusses for humans. I grouped both she and Jim in the same boat. Crooked and fake and out to scam the world. I figured that they were both equally anti gay and were in league with the Pat Robersons of the world.

Since the fall of the PTL, Tammy started making appearances out in public. She did that awful show with Jim J. Bullock, and did many events that were as gay as Jim. I remember thinking that it was really cool that she had such a turn around. So I started looking back at her life and found that she, unlike the rest of the demon spawn she hung out with at the PTL, was not anti gay at all. She had always had many gay friends. During the onset of HIV, back when it was still Gay cancer, she was one of a dismal minority of people who advocated for compassion and ministering to the needs of those who were suffering. She was filmed publicly embracing gays who were dying back when even the medical profession was frightened.

In the more recent past, I had gone to the Red Party in Columbus Ohio. Maybe some of you have gone and remember. Its since been disbanded. One thing you could always count on was the flashy show of over the top entertainment. One year, I saw a really odd sight. A very convincing drag queen who looked just like Tammy Faye. When we passed by closer I could hear her talking and it even sounded like her. I thought wow. What a funny act. Show up at a huge gay party with half naked boys everywhere dressed up like Tammy Faye Baker.. Sorta like dressing up like a pregnant nun for Halloween.. And damn.. she looked just like her. She had the eye make up down pat. Then someone leaned in to me and said that was really her.. I could not believe it. I had to find out for myself.

I walked over and started a conversation with her. Which was no easy task since every muscle queen in the building, pupils like saucers, was clamoring to hear how she had evolved to find company with the gays..

She said, "Honey, I never had to evolve to find company with gays.. I've always been here! Me and the gays are like this.." and she held up 2 extremely long nailed fingers intertwined.. She told us of her very long gay history, and her very emotional divorce and her bitter break up with Jim J. Bullock.

By the end of the night, every queen that met her that night left with a big lipstick print on their cheek and a new best friend. Just thought I'd share.. :-)

I do hope she beats this cancer. She really is a super neat lady!

Thanks for sharing that, Zach.

I think it's rather sad that she'll probably be best remembered in America for the PTL scandal and her dog's air-conditioned dog house. She obviously was more than that.

I watched as she came out in favor of gay rights several years ago - before Ellen and Rosie came out, before gay was cool, and when every other televangelist was foaming at the mouth to discriminate.

I hope her faith in God carries her - and her family - through this difficult time.

I hope this message gets to Tammy Faye Messner. There is a treatment that was discovered by Rene Caisse which helped tremondously with cancer. It's called Essiac (her name spelled backwards). She discovered this herbal remedy through an indian tribe on her visits. She went home and brewed this into a tea. I can go on but I REALLY think the family needs to read this themselves. My friend was diagnosed with cancer and had three months to live..it has been over 4 years now and in remission. Please read about this by Rene Caisse. My prayers are with you and your family in this time of need
