Greetings, all. My name is Dustin Kight and I'm excited to start contributing to the Bilerico Project, right here and right now!

I live in Somerville, MA (aka Basically Boston) and work for the Family Equality Council (formerly Family Pride). As readers of Bilerico well know, none of us "org" people write on behalf of the groups we work for, but you can expect a fair amount about LGBTQ family politics from me in the future.

In the meantime, I thought we'd start things off light. I'm a big fan of comments. I like the interaction. I find it essential to the whole blogging endeavor. (If I wanted to share my thoughts with myself and myself only, I could easily scribble them on my bedroom wall....) In the spirit of sharing, I thought I'd share a few of my favorite things. I hope you'll share, too.

In times like these -- with ENDA whirling us around, bringing some of us closer together, others apart, and the world in the spins, generally -- it's good to step back for a minute and focus on life's little pleasures. I'll go first:

  1. PopTrashRadio -- It's a podcast by two wickedly funny East Texas friends, who blab about politics, pop culture, Southernness, and the random things you think about when conversing with old friends. I don't always agree with what Davy and Kendra say, but their humor and their candor help me fall asleep at night. Having lived in Washington, DC, for a year, I have a studied appreciation for people who at least try to keep it real.
  2. The Daily Puppy -- Think on it for too long, and it might creep you out. But adding this little widget to my Google homepage was the best thing I ever did (to my Google homepage). I realized I'd be an okay human the day I stopped hating dogs and embraced their needy, smelly, drooling beauty.
  3. Sappy, sappy movies -- You may say it's a gay cliche, but I knew I loved Steel Magnolias long before I knew I liked boys. Give me Beaches and Stepmom any old day.
So there you have it -- a few of my favorite things. Now it's your turn to share. And trust me; if you don't, I'll be really, really sad. I might even have to take a day or two off work and indulge in copious amounts of 1, 2 and 3!

My favorite thing of the moment is Milo Ventimiglia. Yup, Peter Petrelli on Heroes. Yumm!

1. Politics
2. Pop music (especially Mika!)
3. Reality TV

and, of course, blogging...

All my really favorite things are unmentionable in public....

And everything else just sounds bland...

Let's see...

How bout this:

Favorite book: At Swim, Two Boys, by Jamie ONeill, The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini (btw, there's a lot of controversy about the new film of this book because of the scene where one of the boys is raped. For those in Indy it's playing at the Heartland Film Fest; but I think it's sold out)

Favorite movie: That's a tough one. I'll say TheHours but don't hold me to it. Maybe The Dreamers

Favorite CD: Depends on my mood. Riught now I'm listening to lots of Leonard Cohen (Rufus WEinwright's songs from I'm Your Man and Jennifer Warnes Famous Blue Raincoat and I found a great clip of "Suzanne" on U TUBE

Favorite TV show: I don't really watch TV except maybe Grey's Anatomy when I remember that it's on.

Favoreite Place: Canada (Stratford)

Favorite Ice Cream flavor: Pistacio

Favorite beverage: coffee, black

Favorite restaurant: Buco de Beppi (was that it??)

Can't think of anything else right now....
