Say good-bye to the possibility of a social conservative third-party run.
This indicates three things:
- Rudy Giuliani is not "moderate on gay rights" or "pro-choice" like the tired media narrative on him says (even the WaPo link above says that, ugh), and he's doing a good job of convincing people of that behind the scenes.
- Pat Robertson, and other leaders of the Religious Right like him, don't want to support a candidate who has a purer record and history out of fear that they'll end up supporting a loser and be exposed the non-power-brokers they are now in the larger conservative movement.
- Tax cuts still outweigh everything else for Republicans, and threat construction is the only trick they know to get there.
