Servicemembers Legal Defense Network invites Bilerico's DC-area readers to join us on Wednesday evening, January 9, for a special reception in Washington with Sergeant Darren Manzella, the openly gay medic recently featured on 60 Minutes. Sergeant Manzella will be joined in D.C. by his mom, Nancy, who is coming to Washington and speaking out, for the first time, about her son's service and her support of his work to tell the real story about what it's like to serve under "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

SLDN's reception kicks off at 6pm at the Army-Navy Club in downtown D.C. This will be the first public appearance by Sergeant Manzella since 60 Minutes aired, and is a unique opportunity to meet him, talk to him about his experience, and learn more about SLDN's work to lift the ban.

The reception is free and open to the public. If you are interested in attending, please click here to RSVP. (And bloggers in the area might also be interested in attending Tuesday morning's press conference with Darren at the National Press Club. For more information on that event, visit SLDN online.)

Join SLDN as we toast Sergeant Manzella and his courage in serving our country and speaking out about "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."
