James Dobson's John McCain hissy fit

The good Doctor took a moment away from berating dads into showing their penises off to their boys to complain about McCain:

"I am deeply disappointed the Republican Party seems poised to select a nominee who did not support a Constitutional amendment to protect the institution of marriage, voted for embryonic stem-cell research to kill nascent human beings, opposed tax cuts that ended the marriage penalty, has little regard for freedom of speech, organized the Gang of 14 to preserve filibusters in judicial hearings, and has a legendary temper and often uses foul and obscene language.

"I am convinced Sen. McCain is not a conservative, and in fact, has gone out of his way to stick his thumb in the eyes of those who are. He has sounded at times more like a member of the other party. McCain actually considered leaving the GOP caucus in 2001, and approached John Kerry about being Kerry's running mate in 2004. McCain also said publicly that Hillary Clinton would make a good president. Given these and many other concerns, a spoonful of sugar does NOT make the medicine go down. I cannot, and will not, vote for Sen. John McCain, as a matter of conscience.

"But what a sad and melancholy decision this is for me and many other conservatives. Should Sen. McCain capture the nomination as many assume, I believe this general election will offer the worst choices for president in my lifetime. I certainly can't vote for Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama based on their virulently anti-family policy positions. If these are the nominees in November, I simply will not cast a ballot for president for the first time in my life. These decisions are my personal views and do not represent the organization with which I am affiliated. They do reflect my deeply held convictions about the institution of the family, about moral and spiritual beliefs, and about the welfare of our country."

Seriously, did he expect the Republican establishment to go for Tax Hike Mike? Or Freddie "Snooze Bar" Thompson? Did he have any faith in Multiple Choice Mitt? What angle is he working? Or is he just mad because he realizes the GOP establishment always put the Religious Right's agenda behind no-bid contracts for super-rich buddies and tax cuts, tax cuts, tax cuts?

And I think this and Ann Coulter's statement are pretty good reminders that no matter how fashionable the "Hillary/Barack can't beat McCain" arguments are when supporting your own fave candidate, there isn't much truth there.

See, I'm not a Republican. And no, I didn't vote for McCain. But the fact that he uses "foul language" makes him a winner in my book. That guy spent 7 years in a POW camp. I think he's earned the right to use the F bomb whenever the fuck he wants.

I my gosh I love this. The right wingers are freaking out. Guess what people the world is changing. Dobson influences a lot of I think it will be great if him and his brainwashed ingnorant followers stay home in November.

I'm with ya, Serena. There needs to be a lot more swearing in presidential politics. It'd get the youth involved.

I wonder if Dobson was referring to McCain's constant use of the g word, though....

Nah, I bet Dobson hates 'em too!

Hi, Republican base. Now you understand the joy that the Democratic base has been feeling for my entire fucking life. My disappointment in the Democratic candidates will be tempered by your rage at your presumptive nominee.

Have a wonderful day.

This is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anything that pisses off Dobson has to be great.
I hope the right wingers stay home in droves. And if McCain wants to use dirty words, who cares. I think Serena is right, he did earn it.

Yep if Dobson says im a hmm Liberal because I voted today for McCain then I guess it's true!Rolls my eyes on this.

This IS great, and the faster they eat each other alive the better for us and progressives peoples of all kinds.

A lot of LGBT Americans underestimate Dobson's influence and reach simply because he's easy to dismiss as an old coot saying outrageous things. Trust me, he's not just some version of Fred Phelps too lazy to go outside and wave homohating signs with his inbred family.

The sad truth is that FOF HQ is SOOO huge they have their own Zip code in Colorado; so huge that state radio in China lets them broadcast their gay bashing programs; so huge that they are probably primarily responsible for the rise of literally violent opposition to gay equality in Russia. Their millions allow them to publish and broadcast in multiple languages around the world, and Russia, probably growing out of the whole pre-fall of the Soviet Union "Bibles for Russia" cult.

According to People for the American Way:

Finances: $137,848,520 (2004 Focus on the Family revenue); $24,988,036 (2004 Focus on the Family Action revenue)
Staff: approximately 1,300 EMPLOYEES
Publications: 2.3 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS TO TEN MONTHLY MAGAZINES. Magazine titles include: Focus on the Family, Citizen Magazine, Parental Guidance, Clubhouse and Clubhouse Jr. Focus on the Family also publishes a wide variety of books, tapes, films and videos.
Media: Dr. Dobson is heard daily on more than 3,400 radio facilities in North America, IN 15 LANGUAGES, on approximately 6,300 facilities IN 164 COUNTRIES. DOBSON’S ESTIMATED LISTENING AUDIENCE IS OVER 220 MILLION PEOPLE EVERY DAY, including a program translation carried on all state-owned radio stations in the Republic of China. In the United States, Dobson appears on 80 television stations daily.
State affiliates: FOF is affiliated with 36 state groups such as the Pennsylvania Family Institute, the North Carolina Policy Council and the Rocky Mountain Family Council.
Affiliate groups: Focus on the Family Institute, FOF’s college program, and Focus on the Family Action, which is FOF’s cultural action organization formed under the IRS section 501(c)(4). FOF has 74 DIFFERENT INTERNATIONAL MINISTRIES AND HAS ESTABLISHED CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES FOR ATTORNEYS, DOCTORS, TEACHERS, AND OTHER GROUPS.

Did you see that Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh AND Ann Coulter (which you'd already picked up) have all said they'd vote for Hillary Clinton over John McCain? LMAO That's too rich.

Apparently, Dobson has no problem with ole bad ticker cheney telling senators to go fuck themselves though. the irony and hypocrisy of neocons knows no bounds

According to a January 25th report in Time Magazine James Dobson, the less than rational pinhead who runs Focus on the Family is in deep trouble. "Focus on the Family's expense has surpassed its revenues for the last two years; by $4.1 million in 2006 and by $9.9 million in 2005. In 1994 Dobson's monthly newsletter had a circulation of 2.4 million copies. Today, that circulation is about 1.1 million. Also, in the 1990s, Dobson was drawing audiences of 15,000 or more to his speeches; but in the lead-up to the 2006 mid-term election, only about 1,000 people heard his anti-abortion speech at the 2,500-seat Mt. Rushmore National Monument amphitheatre."

Time says "According to news accounts and audited financial reports posted online for potential donors, the organization's staffing is down (30 layoffs last September). Total donations and number of donors are down as well. Sales of Dobson’s tapes and books, a personal business, have declined from $678,000 in 2004 to $269,000 in 2006."

From now until November we're going to hear more and more hysterical claims that retardos like Huckabee, McCain and Dobson are boogie men who'll open the camps and light up the ovens if elected. Thats to divert us from the truth which is that the real damage done to the GLBT agenda came from the Democratic Party. Democrats like Hillary’s campaign manager Barney Frank and Nancy Pelosi gutted ENDA and then dropped it and the Matthew Shepard hate crimes bill so they wouldn’t be campaign issues? The Democrats, who've controlled Congress for the last two years stubbornly refused to repeal Clintons DADT and DOMA?
