'Family values' only for the right families

"I stood and looked out the window watching two mothers and three children playing in the snow while a baby slept upstairs. This was the picture of two happy families, neighbors having a great time, the epitome of 'family values.'

However, the members of our legislature who say they are defending family values would reject both of these families. You see, the mother of three had made a decision to end a pregnancy that, according to the best medical advice, would have resulted in two stillborn or severely disabled babies and risked her own life. The other child has two mothers."
