The candidate formerly known as Marvin Pro-Life Richardson, who's running as an independent to replace Larry Craig, has legally changed his name to Pro-Life:

A Senate candidate has legally changed his name to Pro-Life and will appear on the ballot that way this year, state election officials say.

As Marvin Pro-Life Richardson, the organic strawberry farmer from Letha, 30 miles northwest of Boise, was denied the use of his middle name when he ran unsuccessfully for governor in 2006 because the state's policy bars the use of slogans on the ballot.

He sure has a lot of faith in the voters of Idaho and his ability to campaign if he thinks he has to change his name to an issue so that people know what he's running on.

It's a facet of our bumper sticker politics that this guy thinks that having people know one word about him, "Pro-Life," will be enough to persuade them to vote for him. I'm sure that some people will mark that box for no reason other than a "Well, it said 'Pro-Life,' so I gotta check it," but it doesn't do that much good for those of us who think that people should think through their politics a little more.

But he might just be crazy:

Now, though, officials in the Idaho secretary of state's office say they have no choice because Pro-Life is his full and only name. He says he will run for the highest state office on the ballot every two years for the rest of his life, advocating murder charges for doctors who perform abortions and for women who obtain the procedure.

Congrats, Idaho, it seems like you have a lovely human being on the ballot.

I'm still waiting for Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly to question whether Pro-Life is running for Senator of all Idahoans or just the Fetal Americans who live there.

wow, Alex, when I saw the headline, I thought it was a dig at me for not posting in awhile! ;)

...little did I know that some wingnut in Idaho was just drawing their philosophy of "it doesn't matter what your policies are, so long as you label yourself 'pro-life'" to its fullest conclusion.

I'm gonna hazard a guess that his campaign slogan is going to be...

Vote Pro-Life!

Thank you, I'll be here all week.

LMAO @ Bil. You've gotta be fucking kidding me, right? Oh, wait . . . this is Idaho we're talking about. Now I remember why I moved the heck away from Rexburg.

So what's all the big deal about changing your middle name? Just ask outgoing Idaho Senator Larry Wide-Stance Craig about the procedures.
