The Original Cockettes were a San Francisco based flamboyant drag troupe that inspired the glitter rock era, Bette Midler's shows and some disco diva named Sylvester to a blazing solo career.
Half of the Cockettes is Dana Baitz and she has a long solo career.
Wow. Just wow.
It takes all kinds.
Alex, why do you keep choosing bad queer musicians? LOL How about something for us old timers like Liberace or show tunes? *snickers*
Just to point out that they did this for fun not to create a touring group.
As another pointed out Dana has been doing solo work for years, and Mirha-Soleil Ross has been a solo performance artists, speaker and activist in both the transexual and sex worker communities. You can Google her to learn more yourself.
Both are great people and I can say I'm lucky enough to be able to call them friends.
Bil, I don't know what you're talking about. Dana Biatz is sick on the bass and this song is awesome, even if it is a little 80's.
The point of the feature is to start thinking about queer music outside of Elton, Melissa, and George and to give some attention to lesser known groups. Bet you'd never heard of the Cockettes before!
You've got me there.
