The only plausible connection to the subject matter of this post to the GLBT community discourse has to do with peace in my own particular same-sex household. My beloved and I have long been at odds over what "Next Monday, next Friday, etc." means. The difference between us has more than once sparked near cataclysmic misunderstanding concerning our calendars, business, social, medical, and otherwise.
He says that invariably the term "next X" means the "X" in the week after the one we're currently in, regardless of how far into the current one we find ourselves. I say it's at least ambiguous. To me, when it's Monday, "next Saturday" is the last day of the current week; but if it's Friday already, the same term refers to "a week from tomorrow". I can't even begin to think about the impact of the California marriage decision on our own relationship in Indiana until that other pressing interpretational dispute is settled. Bilerico Project jurors, what say you all? Your unanimous decision will be final and binding on me.
