The LA LGBT community - and lots of straight allies - turned out to celebrate Pride, marriage, family fun, and the sheer joy of celebrating freedom in the Southern California sun. See more photos and commentary in my other post, L.A. LGBT Pride and Politics. Enjoy!

Is that really a banner for a "Bus Riders Union?" I can only read the first half, but if it is - that's hilarious.

Having all these photos in a Bilerico article is a new feature, right? Awesome!

A point of clarification: Is this a Los Angeles Pride parade, which is different from the West Hollywood Pride parade? I don't recall ever hearing of a LA Pride event when I lived out there. The big event then was in West Hollywood where Pride was celebrated for a week with all kinds of interesting events and concerts, in addition to a parade. That's usually later in June.

Hi -

Yes, that's the Bus Riders' Union - one of many union groups marching...there was another one asking folks to boycott the hotels at LAX - LA Airport - because they are non-union and the unions have supported us.

And to clarify - the Christopher Street West Pride Parade started in 1971 on Hollywood Boulevard and subsequently moved to its home in West Hollywood. But it is still considered the LA Pride parade - the attendance this year was up to 175,000 with the overall attendance including the Festival for the weekend was up to 375,000, per the LA Sheriff's Department.

The cities of West Hollywood and Los Angeles have been trying to hold events throughout the month of June to celebrate Pride Month. These events are not organized by CSW. Tomorrow, for instance, will be an event about Global Human Rights.

LA City Councilmember Bill Rosendahl, who was CSW's Man of the Year this year, is holding an event in City Hall Chambers on June 27 to honor Black AIDS Institute founder Phill Wilson, outgoing state Sen. Sheila Kuehl, the USC Lambda alumni, and me.

Hope that helps.
