Another one to share from the reader inbox in reference to Saturday's Homotextual post quoting Tim Gunn on Michele Obama and Cindy McCain's fashion:
Hey Slick: If you want to pick on Cindy MCCain at least she doesnt have to sneak up on the mirror just to see herself like you do.Twit!!!!!!!
This was immediately followed up by an e-mail entitled "Check out this lady!" with several pictures of Sen McCain and his classy lady and (as an extra bonus!) quips about her life like these:
They have a marriage prenuptial agreement, her assets remain separate.
and my personal favorite:
In 1991, Mrs. McCain came across a girl in an orphanage in Bangladesh . Mother Teresa implored Mrs. McCain to take the baby with severe cleft palate. She did so without first telling her husband.
That clip came directly under this photo:
Isn't it great how the rich white lady came and took a brown baby without telling her husband? I wonder why she wouldn't consult a Republican politician about adding a dark skinned child to the family?
Which leads me to the logical conclusion that not only does Cindy McCain not trust her own husband not to leave her and take her fortune but she also doesn't even bother to consult him on life-altering decisions.
Since John McCain abandoned and divorced his disabled wife, Carol, to start an affair with the current Mrs. McCain, I'd suggest her sense of logic and people reading abilities are probably not far off the mark. Especially since he married the heiress for her money.
In 1979 - while still married to Carol - he met Cindy at a cocktail party in Hawaii. Over the next six months he pursued her, flying around the country to see her. Then he began to push to end his marriage. Some of McCain's acquaintances are less forgiving, however. They portray the politician as a self-centered womanizer who effectively abandoned his crippled wife to 'play the field'. They accuse him of finally settling on Cindy, a former rodeo beauty queen, for financial reasons.
Or as Carol McCain recently summed up so succinctly:
"My marriage ended because John McCain didn't want to be 40, he wanted to be 25. You know that happens...it just does."
So, thanks "Shaun and Bob" (whichever of the two of you enjoyed the post) for the lovely reminder that Cindy McCain is one smart cookie. From the looks of things, she's smarter than a sizable section of America; she knows not to trust John McCain.
But then again, so are Democrats. That's why they're choosing Obama.
