Politcal Wire has an item saying that newly elected RNC chair Michael Steele may face a "no confidence" vote next month.
Republican insiders tell Political Wire that a no confidence vote on RNC Chairman Michael Steele is likely to be called after the NY-20 special election on March 31 -- regardless of whether Republicans win the seat or not.
Katon Dawson, who came in second in the January RNC vote, is said to be quietly organizing a vote and is getting the support of several state party chairmen who want to dump Steele.
Steele, who was elected the first Black chair of the RNC about six weeks ago, has been the victim of a vicious strain of foot-in-mouth disease. From his tone deaf promises to give the RNC an "off the hook" makeover and offering Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal "slum love" to his public and embarrassing sparing match with Republican leader Rush Limbaugh, has proven himself to be less than ready for political prime time.
Of course, it doesn't help that the Republican Party sees nothing wrong with its increasingly conservative and obstructionist ways, so why would they feel the need to change the party's failed economic and social policies.
Michael Steele may very well become the MC Hammer of conservative politics as a Bilerico commenter described him partially because of his own missteps, but also because some in the RNC really would have elected preferred to elect Katon Dawson. Dawson, as you may remember, was chair of the South Carolina Republican Party and a longtime member of "whites only" country club until he decided to run for RNC chair.
The rest of the country is primed for change and ready to move forward while the Republican Party offers nothing more than lipstick on a political pig. And Michael Steele may be about to find out that he was not the right shade.
