Guest blogger Kellan Baker wrote about the Fred Phelp's hate machine coming to DC to promote their particularly warped brand of religion. In a burst of creativity the organizers of the counter protest turned Westboro Baptist Church's appearance into a fundraiser benefiting Gay and Lesbians Opposing Violence.

My favorite part of this video from the Washington Blade is when the straight kid from the Maryland Teen Republicans says that he's there to support his gay and lesbian friends.

What a freak show.

But I'm sure the Phelps crowd make homophobes like Pat Robertson and Rick Warren feel so much more "fair" and "loving" to gays because at least they aren't like them. That's just what our country needs, more excuses for homophobes not to examine their beliefs and actions.
