This is What Democracy Looks Like...

Tallahassee is still buzzing from 700 lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and allied Floridians descended on the Capitol Monday afternoon. Our collective force was undeniable, even to our staunchest opponents.

As Mallory Wells, Equality Florida's Public Policy Director, boldly stated from the steps of the capitol:

There's a struggle goin' on my friends. You are still second class citizens and we've got some work to do. It is up to each one of us to commit today to fight for the long haul. To fight for our rights.

Since Monday morning, Equality Florida has organized hundreds of citizen advocates from all corners of the state to meet with legislators. As of today, our 2009 Lobby Week teams have secured:

6 new House sponsors for a fully inclusive civil rights bill (Sponsor: Skidmore. 28 Co-sponsors: Abruzzo; Brandenburg; Brisé; Bullard; Chestnut; Clarke-Reed; Fitzgerald; Garcia; Gibbons; Gibson; Heller; Jenne; Kiar; Kriseman; Long; Pafford; Porth; Rader; Randolph; Reed; Rehwinkel Vasilinda; Sachs; Saunders; Schwartz; Soto; Steinberg; Taylor, P.; Waldman)

5 new House sponsors for a bill that would overturn Florida's shameful ban on gay and lesbian adoption (Sponsor: Brandenburg. 18 Co-sponsors: Abruzzo; Brisé; Culp; Garcia; Gibbons; Gibson; Heller; Jenne; Kiar; Kriseman; Pafford; Porth; Rader; Randolph; Rehwinkel Vasilinda; Skidmore; Steinberg; Waldman) and

5 new House sponsors for a statewide domestic partnership bill (Sponsor: Steinberg. 7 Co-sponsors: Gibbons; Kiar; Kriseman; Pafford; Porth; Randolph; Schwartz)

This is fantastic news Nadine! I don't know if I've told you, but I am consistently impressed by the wonderful work you continue to do.

What great news, Nadine! 700 people is quite a few for a political rally like that.
