Thanks for posting Meghan's tweet - it's important to dispel the idea that being a Republican and supporting equal rights are not mutually exclusive. The Republican politicians in Iowa have been infuriating me (a Des Moines native) by suggesting that if this was brought to a referendum that Iowans would vote to define marriage based upon gender. Contrary to the news reports cited in this video http://www.newsy.com/videos/iowa_legalizes_same_sex_marriage/, equal rights are human rights and those are the foundation of Midwestern values.
