The Miss California/NOM craziness continues

Alex posted this morning about Miss California Carrie Prejean appearing in an anti-gay marriage commercial for the National Organization for Marriage. The ad is out now and also features HRC President Joe Solmonese and blogger Perez Hilton.

But have you heard about all the other drama? The Miss California organization is trying to dump Prejean and has told the world about her recent plastic surgery plus one NOM board member has advocated overthrowing the government because of same-sex marriage plus there's more! All after the jump...

In no particular order:

The Miss California Organization told Extra that they paid for a boob job for the beauty pageant contestant.

Shanna Moakler, Co-Executive Director of the Miss California Organization, has confirmed the group behind the pageant paid for Miss California Carrie Prejean's breast implants, weeks before she competed in Miss USA.

In a new interview with Access Hollywood's Billy Bush, Shanna confirmed the news.

"Did you guys pay for it?" Billy asked Shanna directly.

"Yes," Shanna said. "We did."

The organization paid for Carrie's breast enhancement prior to her competing in the Miss USA pageant, which was held in Las Vegas, almost two weeks ago.

Prejean has also signed with a "top" Christian publicity firm.

Carrie Prejean became a hero to conservative Christians by voicing her opposition to same-sex marriage at the Miss USA pageant, and as the media interview requests have poured in, she is operating as a distinctly Christian celebrity. I've learned that Prejean has hired one of the country's premier Christian PR firms, A. Larry Ross Communications--which represents such evangelical powerhouses as Rick Warren, the Southern Baptist Convention, and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association--to be her "agency of record," according to Kristin Cole, the firm's manager of account services.

Washington Blade reporter Rebecca Armendariz attended the press conference Miss California did to announce her new NOM commercial.

Meanwhile, the People for the American Way are pointing out that one of NOM's board members advocates overthrowing the government and criminalizing homosexuality.

The NOM has argued that it is not a homophobic organization, but Card's remarks suggest otherwise. Card, who represents the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on the board and received an effusive welcome last week from NOM president Maggie Gallagher, supports criminalizing sex between same-sex adults:

Laws against homosexual behavior should remain on the be used when necessary to send a clear message that those who flagrantly violate society's regulation of sexual behavior cannot be permitted to remain as acceptable, equal citizens.

Card has also advocated overthrowing the government if same-sex marriage is permitted:

How long before married people answer the dictators thus: Regardless of law, marriage has only one definition, and any government that attempts to change it is my mortal enemy. I will act to destroy that government and bring it down, so it can be replaced with a government that will respect and support marriage, and help me raise my children in a society where they will expect to marry in their turn.

Biological imperatives trump laws. American government cannot fight against marriage and hope to endure. If the Constitution is defined in such a way as to destroy the privileged position of marriage, it is that insane Constitution, not marriage, that will die.

Am I the only one who can't watch the commercial because of a "copyright claim by Mario Lavandeira"?

This whole "controversy" makes my head want to explode. Her bigotry his sexism. Make it stop make it stop.

Hurry up swine flu!

This woman is only taking advantage of free publicity. People would not have even known her name if all this hadn't happened, which make me think Perez Hilton actually did the gay community harm by his comments, which no doubt were as self serving as Miss California's comments about this entire matter after the fact have been.

Me neither. What is a Mario Lavandeira?

Mario Lavandeira is Perez Hilton's real name. He's had their ad taken off youtube for similar copyright infringement reasons as NOM had Rachel Maddow's clips of their auditions taken down. Or really probably just to spite NOM, which I'm down with :)

I'll commit a sin of repetition: some time soon, somebody will link Prejean with the political Palin virus in the runup to the 2012 Presidential elction.

I'm tired of it too, but I'm very glad it happened. I'm glad the curtain covering her despicable anti-gay proclivities has been torn down. I'm glad that the so-called NOM (which should be the National Organization Against Certain Marriages) is being ridiculed over and over. I'm glad that the NOM board member's extremely radical desires for an American theocracy are now being revealed in such stark terms.

I'm in San Diego where the twit was living (she's may move and go to Falwell's so-called "college") and going to school and mega-churching. I'm in California where she is supposedly "our" representative, and I had no idea such a proven liar, an "enhanced" anti-gay asshat, was wearing a crown with our state's name on it.

If I were anybody with a "name" at all, even a gossip monger like Perez, I would have been far more rude, publicly. He has been relatively reserved, considering everything that has come out about her, her lying, and her anti-gay profiteering.

This may just be my favorite celeb drama of the year. What are the chances this will make our 2009 list, Bil?

I am trying to frame this statement in a distinctly nice way. Having been raised as a Roman Catholic through all the turmoil that was taught in those years of going to hell for missing daily mass let along on Sunday, eating meat on Friday, empty stomach’s after midnight, going to hell if you were not Catholic, special permission for marriage to a Non-Catholic, and no possible way could a woman use birth control. It looks to me like the rhetoric got a do over of late or is it that nobody is paying any attention to the rules and regulations of this church? I look now with a fair amount of disgust with the Christian Movement in that HATE seems to be the watchword of the season. Hate this and hate that seems to get the undying appreciative applause of the Sheeple and while I have no doubt that this too will pass as the so called faithful loose interest in the rhetoric. I remind myself daily of the old bumper stickers, “AMERICA LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT”. So if this ultra conservative christian movement doesn't want an America to love that in time is simply giving equal civil rights to everyone I might suggest that we give them the opportunity to buy Alaska (since they have so much money to spend) and go live there. Prejean for President…God chose to make me Gay get over it!

More repetition: Let's not forget Miss CA's exact words: "Well I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. Um, we live in a land that you can choose same sex marriage or opposite marriage and, you know what, in my country and in, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman,"

Sigh. 1-up to the sexist f-ckers who will use this to reinforce the dumb blond stereotype. When will we who identify as women learn not to have strong opinions unless we can back it up with some cold, hard facts? I mean, it's hard enough to be so beautiful & accommodating. Fergoshsakes!

Let's use our gender-equality skillz and dismiss her as an uneducated jerk. Then let's get on with our lives and go back to attacking the causes, rather than the unfortunate effects.

(p.s. Bil I'm not attacking you for the article. I'd rather read it here than anywhere else. Love!)
