Any firm plans?

Anyone know of any firm plans to counter demonstrate against the Phelps clan's visit to Indianapolis? There's an online "protest" that raises money for charity based on how many minutes the group protests, but so far that's all I've heard.

An officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department called yesterday to ask if I knew of any planned rallies; they'd like to work with any counter demonstrators to keep things non-violent.

Please leave a comment or send me an e-mail if you know anything.

My shallow experience with these groups indicate (1) check that the police will restrain them into an area where they will not be blocking traffic for others, and then (2) ignore them. The best thing we can do is just keep it cool.

These groups like attention and publicity. Counter-demonstrating will add to their festivities. Ignore them and they will go away (eventually, and probably sooner) ...

... but they will come back and try again someday. It's a free country and there's nothing we can do to completely stop it.

Like blatant racism, their demonstrations illustrate to others that social hatred against peaceful GLBT people is alive and well. (Not that there was any question about that).

P.S. Thanks for letting me know about The Laramie Project performances. That's my birthday weekend, and I've been looking for something "special yet not expensive" to do.
