Indiana Stonewall Democrats will honor Congressman Andre Carson and local businessman and philanthropist Joe Miller for their work on LGBT issues on October 11. The Frank O'Bannon award will be presented to Congressman Andre Carson for legislative leadership on LGBT issues. Joseph Miller will be recognized for community leadership with the Chuck Avery award.
I'm happy to be a co-sponsor of the event along with quite a few other local LGBT leaders and gay-friendly politicians including State Senator Jean Breaux, City-County Councilors Angela Mansfield and Joanne Sanders, former Secretary of State Joe Hogsett, and Indianapolis mayoral candidate Melina Kennedy.
Since I'll be in Washington DC for the National Equality March, local blogger and radio host Abdul Hakim-Shabazz will be covering the event for Bilerico-Indiana. As his show of support, he's going "Gay for the Day" and will be asking guests the questions he'd want answered if he were gay. It should be a fascinating post as Abdul brings his own flavor to B-IN.
Can't go to the March? You should go to this event and talk with the Congressman about our issues directly! It's win-win! Complete info about the event and how to attend after the jump.

Why did Indiana Stonewall Dems schedule this during the march? Doesn't seem particularly effective, either for the march or for the honoring ceremony.
The event had been scheduled and coordinated with the award recipients before the March was confirmed. By the time everything with the March fell into place, Stonewall Dems were already set with a date that needed to be kept.
It's not the only case like this. A lot of LGBT veterans will be having their annual convention in Las Vegas at the same time too.
