Ohio is a key state in the fight for ENDA.

Senator Voinovich is a fair-minded Republican who seems to be leaning yes on ENDA.

Please call him today to ask for his support. Facts and contact info after the jump.

Senator George Voinovich, a Republican, indicated in July that he was undecided. He could add a 59th votes to the 58 current likely votes in the Senate. (We need 60 votes; click here for an explanation.) However, he has cosponsored a previous bill that included sexual orientation and gender identity language, and his assumed support for ENDA has even been decried by some conservatives. His fellow Ohio Senator, Sherrod Brown, is a co-sponsor of ENDA.

Please call Senator Voinovich and ask him to support S1584. His DC office is 202-224-3353. Local numbers are 216-522-7095 and 614-469-6697. (Click here for email)

The Ohio House Delegation

In the House, Rep. Steve Austria, a Republican, could add a 210th vote to the likely yes votes in the House. (We need 218.) He is considered a social conservative, and he voted no on the hate crimes bill. However, according to Wikipedia, his district ordinarily votes in moderate Republicans. There is nothing substantive to indicate where he stands on ENDA, and I am not ready to throw in the towel on Rep. Austria. Call him at 937-325-0474 to support HR3017.

Rep. Pat Tiberi, also a Republican, could add a 211th vote. He also voted no on hate crimes bills in 07 and 09, but he voted yes on ENDA in 2007. Swing state politics is likely to defy expectations, so I am hopeful about Rep. Tiberi also. Call him at 614-523-2555 to support HR3017.

The following Ohio Representatives are confirmed as yes votes on ENDA:
Steve Driehaus
Charles A. Wilson
Marcy Kaptur
Dennis J. Kucinich
Marcia L. Fudge
Mary Jo Kilroy
John A. Boccieri
Zachary T. Space
Betty Sutton

The following are likely yes votes, though they have made no public commitment as yet:
Tim Ryan

The following are likely no votes, because of their previous stances on gay rights legislation:
Jean Schmidt
Michael R. Turner
Jim Jordan
Robert E. Latta
John A. Boehner
Steven C. LaTourette
