Soccer player Jesus Datalo posed in his underwear for a photo spread in Italian gay publication Romeo Mag and the leadership of his club is hopping mad. Datalo plays for Napoli.

datolo-underwear.jpgThe Argentinian player is hardly the first soccer star to pose in their undies for a queer magazine, but Aurelio De Laurentis, president of the Napoli club, offers up a very convoluted reasoning for his displeasure. De Laurentis is not bothered by the photos but because "the image of Napoli rights have been violated."

What the hell does that even mean? The soccer club's "rights have been violated?" The club has the right to tell players not to mix with those dirty queers? They have the right to tell stars who their fan base can consist of? They have the right to treat one of their own like a pariah for posing for a magazine photoshoot and doing an interview? Whatever.

It sounds like De Laurentis needs to remember another famous picture. It sure as hell got the gays excited and didn't bother to hurt this star's reputation (or his club's) in the least. Picture of our mystery soccer star after the jump.

For those of you feeling a little randy this morning, has a series of pictures of soccer stars posing in their underwear for other LGBT publications.

more or less reminds me of the stir over 2009's ESPN: The Body Issue. it featured both male and female athletes from various professional sports posing nude or semi-nude. I saw comments all over the place from straight male readers complaining, why do they need to see that much of another man's skin in their sports magazine?

not much complaint about the female athletes...

I imagine the complaint here is that mr. datalo's (very sexy) photo shoot will somehow damage the image of the team, reduce ticket sales, scare away homophobic fans... but if that's really their concern... don't you suppose by their logic they'd magnify the "problem" by raising such a stink and calling attention to this among their straight fans?
