I've been saying for a while on this site that education is either the most or among the most homophobic sectors of the workforce, something that generally gets ignored since people don't really know what to do with it or about it. And now there's some more proof, as DailyKos commissioned a poll through Research 2000 of Republicans to make them look stupid, as if that's hard to accomplish. Here's one of the questions (the other gay questions are after the jump):
Should openly gay men and women be allowed to teach in public schools?
Not Sure 19
It's about the same result as the question about same-sex marriage, which shouldn't be surprising since the main arguments against same-sex marriage usually focus on children and "gay marriage taught in schools."
There is a place in the limbic brain that imagines the worst whenever "gay" and "children" are put in the same sentence, and so I think it would have been more interesting, to me as a queer blogger, if the poll asked all Americans this question and then broke down the results based on party. Alas, this poll wasn't conducted to find out more about LGBT issues in the US, but to play in the Democrat/Republican horse race.
Still, I'm honestly not sure America as a whole would be much better on that question.
