When I covered the 2010 GLAAD Media Awards, I got to speak to GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios who was 41-Jarrett.gifappointed earlier this year. He has some big shoes to fill, but with a new look, a new logo, and a renewed vigor, GLAAD looks like it's moving towards an explicitly more political message than in years prior.

Mr. Barrios was very receptive to The Bilerico Project and was even, dare I say, excited to talk to me when he saw I was a Bilerico Project contributor. Barrios was very well spoken, and clearly has had plenty of media training (stayed on message the whole time... which is good for GLAAD, not as good when I'm trying to weasel some personal stories out of him!). He gave a very impassioned speech later that night at the award ceremony and really set out a bold vision for GLAAD in the years to come.

Jarrett Barrios was a major author of the Dallas Principles. It was a pleasure to meet him in Dallas. I was a neophyte player and in awe of the insightful ideas and principles from Barrios. Great man doing a great job.

Great interview, Jason. I'm glad Jarrett mentioned the ways bloggers are working with GLAAD to get the message out.
