Car dealerships are already asking for an exemption from the consumer watchdog agency written into the financial reform overhaul. I suspect they won't be the last one to ask.

Actually, this particular agency would just focus on consumer finance - mortgages, payday loans, credit cards, etc. Other types of products were never meant to be covered.

Loans from car dealers may get carved out, but maybe not. The good news is that it's pretty late in the game. The bill already passed the House & Senate. So it'll be a lot harder for other types of lenders to get carved out (knock on wood).

That'll be good if it passes.
