Victory in Leon County!

map_florida_tallahassee.jpgBy a 5-2 vote, Leon County - home of our state capital - has added a sexual orientation and gender identity inclusive Human Rights Ordinance and added the protections to the county's own personnel policy as well. More than 100 brave and passionate speakers. The culmination of more than a year of work. Way to go team!

What an incredible journey this has been. Leon County steps forward to lead Northwest Florida in Fairness and Equality. Thanks to our supporters across the state for giving us the energy, the drive and the models of policies to follow. Florida can be proud that its capital city respects equality for all its citizens!

It's amazing to me, because so many think of Florida as such a conservative state, but in fact there's more like pockets of conservatism. Good for Leon County, and thank you to all of the hard-working Florida advocates for human rights.

Hey Jillian,
I grew up in the panhandle and even in that very conservative area of the state, there are many good pro-equality people. This victory is significant in shifting the landscape.
People tend to be a prejudiced as they think they are supposed to be.
This victory gives them permission to be better than that.

How many HROs have y'all gotten passed in the past year? You guys are working your asses off! Way to go Nadine!

Wow the home of he hanging chad is entering the 21st century. Maybe eventually they will find out who executed the transwoman who led the boycott against Winn-Dixie.
I knew something was happening when Gov. Crist left the Republican Party.

They have also been trying to improve their hopelessly bad schools. Quality schools are a good sign for opening up sexual orientation bias.
