So a bunch of scientists have discovered that, rather than disappearing from the gene pool, there's a few strains of Neanderthal wandering around our collective DNA. I'll refrain from making a Tea Party joke, but it does make me wonder about other things...

Actually... there's a connection with the anomalous neuro-anatomy and endocrinology of transsexuals here.

Seriously. And a connection with autism. Rates of autistic spectrum disorder correlate well with the amount of Neanderthal genetic material in the local population. They also correlate well with the distribution of grey matter/white matter in the brain. Trans people show the same kinds of anomaly, including the same high rates of consequent ASD but probably from a different cause.

Hmmm, that gives me two arguments for why I might have high levels of Neanderthal DNA. And since Neanderthals had bigger brains than modern humans, I'm perfectly happy with that.

Neanderthals were a well developed human species and there's evidence of cross breeding of Sapiens and Neanderthalensis.

As a separate species they may have suffered from marginalization due to rapid climate change and a loss of territory due to the explosive growth migrating populations of Sapiens. There is lots of evidence that they suffered from predation by Sapiens.

We ate them.

The two guys scuffling are Sapiens, not Neanderthals.

So that explains why I'm so hairy!

So long as I can continue being racist against Neanderthals. Honestly, I think I've earned the right.

Typical Sap. Go back where you came from!

People who can happily coexist with Leah Dughtry, Obama and Biden shouldn't bother worrying about a trifle like that.
