Guessing these early 20th century (1905-1915) ball-players are engaging in a standard-for-the-day hazing ritual. It was fun deciphering the little note on the back of the card, urging the recipient to share a photo of his team as well. One can't help wondering if team-spankings were a common ritual. The spankee certainly seems proud of it.

Back of the card - with the note - after the jump.
