If you're a Hoosier LGBT person, you've probably heard of longtime activist and philanthropist Joseph F. Miller. He was a large donor to the Democratic Party and HIV/AIDS organizations. He supported and encouraged almost every Indiana state-level organization. He was also a personal friend of mine and Jerame's - as well as some of our other Indiana contributors.

meet_jm_pic01.jpgJoe was generous to a fault when it came to his money. His JF Miller Foundation gave to many charities to champion causes dedicated to AIDS prevention and education, homeless and underprivileged children, and social injustice. He was a founding member of the Indiana Stonewall Democrats, a board chair for Indiana Cares, the nation's second oldest HIV/AIDS education and prevention organization (founded shortly after the Gay Men's Health Crisis in New York City), and a board member of the Indiana ACLU.

"The Damien Center is mourning the tragic loss of Joseph F. Miller, philanthropist and pillar of the HIV/AIDS community. Joe Miller has been making meaningful contributions to dozens of groups since the 1970's, and his 2005 gift to the Damien Center to underwrite the Joseph F. Miller Center for HIV Testing and Prevention, has played a powerful role in the fight against HIV and AIDS in the central Indiana community," said Elisa Rogowski a spokeswoman for the Damien Center, Indiana's largest HIV/AIDS service provider. "His presence and generous support will be sorely missed by all those who knew him."

What a shock. Joe was a friend and supporter. This is just too sad.

I never knew or met Joe Miller, but I saw his name every week in the testing wing of the Damien Center. His legacy will saves lives. May he rest in peace.

Oh man, I met him last year in a charity event. He was such a nice dude. My prayers as well as that of my startup DailySnap.

I'm so sad. Joe was a very dear friend. I loved his positive outlook on life, and we shared a love for Apple products.
