Talk about putting your money where your mouth is:

Thumbnail image for Chris and Sean.png Facebook cofounder Chris Hughes and his partner, Freedom to Marry political director Sean Eldridge, have a made a huge commitment to the nonprofit push for marriage equality nationwide. The couple will match donations made to Freedom to Marry, Empire State Pride Agenda, Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders and Equality Maryland for the rest of this year.

Chris and Sean, who have been together for five years, have been active in LGBT equality and other political causes. In addition to being a Facebook cofounder, Chris was director of online organizing for the Obama campaign and yesterday launched his newest venture Jumo. Jumo is "a social network connecting individuals and organizations who want to change the world." You can find LGBT groups like GLSEN and Freedom to Marry on Jumo.

Sean and I also work together at Freedom to Marry where I am new media director.

What's especially great about the way Chris and Sean have made the gifts is that it is encouraging people to become donors to organizations that are doing great work to end marriage discrimination. While the election were worse than anticipated, there are some bright spots. Maryland, New York, and Rhode Island are three of the states where we can win marriage in 2011.

Hi Michael,

I'm about to write about Jumo this weekend for Bilerico. You're giving readers a great intro plug on the venture. A classmate of mine is on Chris' team at Jumo, so I've been hearing a lot about this project over the past year or so.

As for Chris and Sean, I think this is fantastic and am happy to see Chris doing something really great with his investment - both with equality and Jumo.
