So sad, but true.
I worked for the sheriff's department as a 911 call taker and got a call from a 16-year-old boy who had been raped after accepting a ride home from a costume party. The driver had been vetted by his friends as a good man and trustworthy.
The SOP was to have a female at all rapes involving minors regardless of gender. None wanted to go. They said homophobic slurs and were derogatory. Even the 2 lesbian deputies chimed in.
It took 30 minutes to find someone who would go. It was one of the straight male deputies who had been on dinner break and heard it when he checked in.
I read them all the riot act. They just laughed at me. I shook my head. Gays hating gays. I gave my 2 weeks notice that night. And the reasons why I was leaving.
