I'm so, so proud of all of the work and energy Bilerico readers and contributors put into freeing Betsie Gallardo from prison over the past two weeks. This photo is what you worked for; Betsie Gallardo has been released. A note from Betsie's mother, Jessica, came in last night in the wee hours of the morning.
Betsie is out of the hospital's prison ward and resting peacefully in a south Florida hospice where she is finally getting effective pain management. Its a miracle to have her out of chains and free to do so much more than she could this morning.
I'm attaching a camera phone photo to this email that was taken as we were leaving the hospital. You've got it and this news first. I'll send out the word in a broadcast sometime after noon, but its only yours until then.
Thanks and God bless. When I get home I owe you a beer.
No need to thank me, Jessica. The praise belongs to all of the wonderful people who got involved to help Betsie; regular reader and former contributor Linda Perdue brought Jessica and me together but my role was minimal compared to everything contributor Michael Rajner, Florida legislators, and our delightful readers did.
Together we can make a difference. One life at a time.
