Color me surprised - a California minister who was a donor to the Proposition 8 campaign has been caught allegedly molesting children. Not only is Mr. Sanctity supposedly a man of God, he's also a foster parent and daycare provider. Tom-Gene-Daniels.jpgThe Sacramento Bee has the details:

Citrus Heights Police announced late Thursday that Tom Gene Daniels, 48, was arrested Dec. 9. Lt. Ray Bechler said police had postponed publicizing the arrest while they continued their investigation into the case.

Bechler said the charges against Daniels involve incidents that allegedly occurred between June 2004 and June 2007. Citrus Heights Police investigated an initial complaint in 2008 but were unable to come up with enough evidence for the DA to file charges, he said. In recent months, another victim came forward. The district attorney filed charges Dec. 9, and Daniels was arrested the same day.

It reminds me of Jamie Kilstein's fantastic rant about religious fundies. He says, "If God designed marriage for a man and a woman, statistics say that God is failing. Just look at recently divorced homophobe Karl Rove or fat fuck, drug addict, three time divorced Rush Limbaugh, or two time divorced Newt Gingrich, or otherwise straight and homophobic pastor Ted Haggard who hired a male prostitute to shame fist him into a meth coma. They say that being gay is immoral. Really?! I'd rather my kid spend the weekend with the flaming queer couple down the street than have them spend another night at the church with Father Diddlyhands."

Everyone say, "Amen."

OK...."Amen".....multiple times in fact. Your comments are right on.

However, I was drawn to the post because of its lead headline: "Prop 8 Supportive Minister Busted for Child Molestation". Seeing nothing in the rest of the piece concerning Proposition 8, I clicked on the link "donor to the Proposition 8 campaign.......". It led to a short item in the Sacramento Bee which was equally devoid of any mention of Prop 8, other than perhaps an esoteric comment after the tex which merely said:

"Interesting.... remembering Prop 8, what did he say, think of the children... guess he did."

It would not be surprising if a fundamentalist pastor in California hadn't joined the chorus against Proposition 8. Nor would it be a Revelation (sorry for the pun) if he brushed his teeth before preaching a sermon prior to his arrest. But I suspect that wouldn't have produced the headline: "Tooth Brushing Minister Busted for Child Molestation".

Obviously something is missing here; hopefully Bilerico remains a bit more careful that Fox news in attracting attention with stuff that is nowhere to be seen when one continues to watch.

Did I miss a link? Hang on - let me find it.

Here you go.

Ah, Father Diddlyhands . . . a fine, old, Irish name.

Well, they don't say much about the charges against him at the links, so I'll withhold judgment.

People, first of all,by definition God cannot fail.Since He,She,or,if you insist,The Divine It,is an absolute, only man fails or comes up or straight. This,by the way, also takes into account the fact that just because you are a Christian does not mean you are perfect. As a matter of fact you are a newborn and only after a lot of living or conflict, stress and failure will you even begin to walk like a child.
While I am on the subject,we might as well get the Book thing out of the way so that no one feels left out.
The Bible is the Word of God to us gay Christians as well as all other Christians.BUT IT IS FILTERED THROUGH THE MINDS OF MEN.
Men who lived thousands of years ago in a much different culture.Men and women who are human beings and usually under incredible stress.People who make mistakes and folks who like to tell stories.Men and their biases...and their prejudices.
But it still speaks to folks in need. Of all persuasions, cultures and insights.
