It's a rare and beautiful thing when the person dissolving an estate can provide some brief background on the deceased. According to the auctioneer of these two images, they came from the estate of an elderly, openly lesbian woman and were part of her collection of pictures of close friends. I love how diverse they were - city and country! I am guessing these were shot ca. 1940s. The first photo was listed as a couple who spent their whole lives together.

the second photo, I could swear she looks like a youthful (still puppy fat) lucille ball. I'm just saying... or not saying...
