Teddy Partridge posted several Hunt's Manwich commercials at FireDogLake that show men acting gay and then getting hit in the face. Here's the one on musical theater:
This makes me think of those "Hungry Man" frozen dinners that have more fat and are bigger servings and how we weirdly associated eating badly with being masculine in our culture. It's just a bizarre association: women can eat terribly too and there are plenty of men who eat healthy. It doesn't seem like a gendered topic.
These commercials remind me of those Snickers commercials where men beat each other up for appearing gay since it's perfectly fine to be violent towards men who are feminine in any way. It's not new, it's not fresh, it's not edgy, and it's not funny. But marketing isn't about any of those things so there will be more ads like these.
The other two in the series are after the jump.
