Oh, high school... Every teen looks forward to graduation, but the grownups often end up with empty nest syndrome. Thumbnail image for with Chris Colfer, Lea Michelle, and Corey Monteith departing Glee at the end of season three, will gleeks survive without their BFFs? Series creator Ryan Murphy has also said that other characters will also be departing the show then, but hasn't revealed who.

Murphy tells THR: "You can keep them on the show for six years and people will criticize you for not being realistic, or you can be really true to life and say when they started the show they were very clearly sophomores and they should graduate at the end of their senior year."

Murphy added that planning for the future beyond high school will be a heavy theme during Season 3, noting that "more characters are leaving than are staying" when graduation time comes at the season's end.

"We've never done anything by the book," he said, adding that who's graduating and who's staying will be revealed in the Sept. 20 season premiere. "We made that decision and I involved Chris and Lea and they thought that was a good idea. They both trust the writing and trust me and felt that it would be great to have an open and closed experience for them to go out while they were on top."

The article later says that Monteith hasn't been notified yet that his character's run is being terminated. Murphy simply told the site, "He knows he was a sophomore when the show started."

Oh. It's nice to know that this is the first time since Season 1 that they've considered being true to reality. Maybe that will make the next season not suck so hard.

This opens the door for spin off called "Glee: The College Years." The classic show, 'Saved by the Bell' took a similar creative didn't work but perhaps something like this could/would for Glee. People love those singing/dance competition shows.

I see *three* spinoffs

We start with GLEE. The spinoffs (which, like some brit series, would have lots of crossover appearances):

GLY - Follows Kurt as he deals with college, joins a fraternity. Not exactly Animal House, but a lot of fun.

GLO - Rachel follows her star and heads for the footlights of Broadway - can she make it in the big city? Classic MTM stuff here.

GLUM - Finn, eschewing college, is working at Kurt's father's garage.

Wow...what did Corey do wrong? He wasn't involved or even told that his run is coming to an end?
