History is being made today as the Senate Judiciary Committee takes up the Respect for Marriage Act, legislation introduced by California Sen. Dianne Feinstein to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). At the White House press briefing yesterday, spokesperson Jay Carney announced that President Obama endorsed the bill, an action that is unprecedented in that rarely is legislation endorsed before it has passed any committee.

Daniel Blomberg, an attorney with the right-wing Alliance Defense Fund, was "disappointed" in the President. An Alliance Defense Fund representative is testifying at the DOMA Repeal hearing, as is Evan Wolfson, founder of Freedom to Marry, and Joe Solmonese, President of the Human Rights Campaign. (See the witness list below).

You can watch the Senate Judiciary hearing live by clicking here. The hearing is scheduled to get underway at 10:00am EST, 7:00am Pacific.

Here are some of the excellent reporters and bloggers who will be covering the hearing so you can get some perspective or check in if you can't watch the proceeding. Be advised that some of them will seek unique interviews and quotes from witnesses and they will undoubtedly file complete stories about the hearing later. The hashtag for the hearing is #repealDOMA.
