Yesterday Rick Perry jumped in the GOP clown car, but apparently there is a limit to how many buffoons one of those contraptions can hold. This morning Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty announced that he is dropping out of the race.
"We needed a boost from Ames that didn't happen," Pawlenty told staff on a conference call Sunday morning, CNN learned.
Speaking to ABC's "This Week," Pawlenty said his campaign needed a lift in the straw poll.
"The pathway forward for me doesn't really exist and so we're going to end the campaign," he said.
Pawlenty finished a distant third in the poll, behind Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann and Texas Rep. Ron Paul.
no hardly any* candidate who's won the straw poll has ever actually won the nomination, this shows you how bad Pawlenty's campaign apparatus really was. I can't say I'm sorry to see him go.
So who will be the next to fall? Who'll drop out next? My money is on Jon Huntsman.
Update: Projector Matt writes in to point out my mistake. "While it hasn't been super reliable, I think the Ames Straw Poll has indeed had a winner who became a candidate and eventually president (George W. Bush in 1999)." Thanks Matt! I stand corrected.
