Like Bil, I've stayed largely away from poring over the parodies of Rick Perry's ridiculous "Christian kids can't celebrate Christmas openly because gays are in the military" video. But this one caught my eye. It's Fred Karger, that other (openly gay) candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, in "Ashamed," where he refutes Perry's attacks with...an attack. He says:
I'm Rick Perry and I admit that I'm ashamed of making that ad about gays in the military and all. I guess I was just desperate because I'm low in the polls. Now my video is the most disliked video in YouTube history. I guess hate weakens America. And I want America to be strong. Rick Perry may not approve of this message, but I do. I'm Fred Karger.
Aside from the fact that it looks like Karger only filmed one take of himself doing the monologue, I have a problem with this video. I thought that Karger (along with Huntsman, and perhaps Johnson) was one of the few GOP hopefuls with some sense of respect and awareness that he was above the circus that currently defines the race for the Republican ticket. But joining in on the potshots with one of most parodied videos in recent memory does nothing but further categorize this election as a total joke. Is anyone's faith shaken in our electoral system yet?
