A special shoutout to the Indianapolis FOX station for doing a well-rounded report on the Salvation Army's discrimination against LGBT people. I knew the story had ran after I opened my inbox this morning to find this e-mail from "Holden Magroin:"
You're a stupid fag. You wanna suck a dick that's fine, but don't expect the Salvation Army to help your gay ass. Why should they have to? stupid faggot.
Just for the record, I never expected the Salvation Army to help me suck a dick. (If you're going to be an asshole, at least have good grammar so you don't come across as an idiot too!)
For some reason I can't embed the video, but the site has a shortened text version online too. I love it that they point out a couple of the lies the Army has been using to try and discredit me.
The Salvation Army doesn't deny that a portion of red kettle donations end up at national headquarters, but instead of lobbying they say people are paid to "just talk" with lawmakers. The organization also claims not to discriminate based on sexual orientation...
"Flatly put they're lying. It's happened several times in Indiana," says Browning.
First they claimed all the money dropped in the buckets stayed local. Now they admit that some of it goes back to the national headquarters. Now they claim they don't employ "lobbyists" with the money, just "people who talk to the government." Both the New York Times and the FOX station express the idiocy behind the statement.
The part that doesn't appear in the report is that they told the reporter they'd tried to contact me for the past couple of years. I've had the same e-mail address for 13 years. They lied about where the money goes, what it's used for, and deny discriminating even though its anti-gay lobbying efforts are part of the public record and there are documented cases of discrimination nationwide. So do you really think they've tried to reach out? Instead, I e-mail them every year to get a quote with no reply.
I can't embed the video for some reason (usually you can), so you'll have to go to the site to watch it.
