australiashack.jpgSeveral Australian news sites confirmed Thursday that an unidentified Australian gay male couple is being investigated by the FBI for allegedly belonging to an international child pedophilia ring.

According to a report by The Courier-Mail, the couple says they are innocent and are victims of prejudice against gay fathers. They believe they are being investigated because three different men they met through social media have been arrested in conjunction with child pornography. ??The couple has apparently appealed to Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Kevin Rudd to intercede with LA's Department of Children and Family Services - or DCFS - which took away their 6 year old son when the family was in LA on vacation last October. ??The parents said DCFS has found no evidence of harm to the child and no charges have been filed against them.

However, a report in The Sydney Morning Herald says that DCFS has a video in which the son is seen "watching a film of pornography with another child and speaking in an explicit sexual manner."

A DCFS spokesperson would not comment specifically about the case but told me (for a radio report for OutQ News) that no child would be detained without an evaluation that the child was or might be in danger. The boy was born to one of the men through a Russian surrogate in 2005. He has been in foster care for three and a half months.

There will be a hearing in LA next week to determine whether the child should be permanently removed.
